Savings Accounts

“Introducing Our Ordinary Savings Account – Your Path to Financial Freedom”

What is it?

The Ordinary Savings account is the primary account and is compulsory for every member. It is used as the premise of obtaining a loan, especially the guarantor loan, where a member can borrow up to three (3) times the amount of money stored in their Ordinary Savings account.

How does it work?

To obtain an Ordinary Savings account you first need to become a member. Apply here. Once you fill and submit the form, your account will be created and you will be given an account number.

Important:

  • You must be actively employed, within the public sector, to open a savings account.
  • You cannot withdraw money from this account, unless written approval is provided by the Customer Service and Credit Manager.

Compulsory

You must contribute a minimum of $1000.00 to the Ordinary Savings account every month.

What is it?

The Special Savings account is the secondary account given to members, upon request, that serves as a simple way allowing members to deposit and withdraw money at will. 

How does it work

To obtain a Special Savings account, a member must make a request the Enquiries department, at the front desk. This account, unlike the Ordinary Savings account, allows you to deposit and withdraw money anytime.

Important:

  • There is no minimum deposit requirement, nor monthly obligation.
  • This Savings Account does not affect your borrowing power.

What is it?

The Early Savers Saving account targets children ages 1-18, with the primary objective being to provide better scope of financial empowerment for the younger generation.

How does it work?

To obtain an Early Savers Savings account you, the parent/legal guardian, needs to first be a member of the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union. Apply here. Once you fill and submit the form, the account will be created and you will be given an account number for the child/children.

Compulsory

You must contribute a minimum of $1000.00 to the Ordinary Savings account every month.

Requirements

  • Early Savers Application Form along with deduction form.
  • 1 passport size photo of child.
  • 1 copy of the child’s birth certificate.

After the creation of your membership and the issuance of your credit union account number, you become eligible for your first loan after making six (6) contributions, over six(6) months. Also, the maximum amount you can borrow for your first loan is $300,000.00.

A member can completely clear any loan only after three (3) consecutive months have passed, with consecutive deductions, since the loan has been disbursed to that member.

No, simply signing as a guarantor for someone does not make you ineligible to take a loan. However, the amount you are able to apply for is the person you signed for defaults making you obligated to pay on their behalf. That reduction in your funds will affect the size of the loan you can take.
